Quick Byte: It Is Time For Parents To Loosen Up About Their Kids’ Marriages

In India, one hears the word ‘marriage’ so often as soon as they turn 20. People think that the pressure to get married is only faced by women, but no! Men feel the same brunt from their peers. Today’s youth leads independent lives, they can very well choose what suits them and when. Is marrying late worse than marrying the wrong one?

Some of the people of this generation have accepted the fact that it is okay to not get married until they find the right one. But unfortunately, they are ostracised from the social functioning of society. They are treated as if they don’t understand the world. But that’s not right. I believe they understand better than the others.

I have seen a few parents who arrange marriages for their kids and then make their own child feel like they have sinned by getting married. I’m not saying that parents are wrong or bad, but Indian parents need to loosen up their parenting rules with changing times. Everyone should be allowed to live their lives on their own terms. Life can become a mess if an outsider interferes with their own conditions or stigmas.
