“I’m Thankful To The Lockdown For Giving Me Time To Do Things I Never Had Time For”

Quarantine, a new word I had never heard before the COVID-19 pandemic. People were uttering this word from their mouth, but I was a bit flustered and curious as to what it meant. One day, I was going back home from my college, and the next day, when I woke up, I got to hear that something called the coronavirus had spread all over the world. I started reading articles, newspapers and many more writings to get the actual information.

I found that the virus had come from China and the whole world is now suffering because of it. This was the reason why our Prime Minister announced a lockdown. It still wasn’t clear in my mind because I didn’t know what quarantine was and what quarantine days looked like. I started searching the web about this and realised what we were going through and why everyone was mugging quarantine day 1, 2, etc.

At first, I spent my days only using my phone as we are covered in the web of social media and that’s the point where it struck my head that maybe, I’m not utilising these days in the best way.

Being a journalist, I must pay attention to Corona’s visit to India. From the next day onwards, I started doing something useful — I did photography because I’m fond of doing that, and also started writing short stories. Basically, I did all the things that I’d always wanted to do, and also those that strengthened my learning capacity, my writing skills and all that stuff.

I wanted to put down my thoughts about what I feel about these quarantine days, and that’s the reason I started writing this article. It’s rightly said or heard that this thing cannot be experienced further, so whatever you are going through, you must not regret it later. This time will pass and you will not even get a minute to do what you want. I personally didn’t want to get that penitence and so, started utilising my quarantine days.

Quarantine days have taught me a lot of things. Spending time with your next of kin is something you don’t think about including in your schedule on ‘ordinary’ days. Also, there must be many people around this world who want to go outside, including me, but if we start doing that, then it will not end in a good way.

We should all cherish these days because we will probably never get back to this era again. So, instead of over-conceiving this period, it’s time to put it to good use. I’m really content with myself that at least I didn’t waste my time.

This kind of proficiency will be remembered by me until my last breath. Also, I want to mention one thing: even if these days are over, it doesn’t mean I’ll stop doing all these things I got to explore. I don’t want to break this chain further.
