Hope you all are doing fine during this pandemic. I am Maneela, a Psychology, and Neuroscience enthusiast pursuing a Master’s in Psychology in India. My goal is to bring awareness to people regarding mental health and bring the realization that there are fields other than Engineering and Medicine, which bring fortune, help make a living and give personal satisfaction too.
I have seen ups and downs during my schooling. I switched my medium of study; they expected me to perform well from day one without understanding my troubles and without supporting me. But one fine day, I got to talk with my principal; she made me realize that it’s okay to make mistakes, but it won’t do any good to me if I don’t learn from them and don’t improve myself. From then on, I started improving myself step by step. If my principal hadn’t taken out the time to speak with me, I wouldn’t be what I am today.
What I am trying to say is, students need to get mentored by teachers and their elders. It will make them realize what their capabilities are and help set their goals. Even today, I ask some professionals to be my mentors, and I wouldn’t step back if someone asks for my suggestion. An extra level of education is happening during this process.
Following up on the students’ progress and having personal talks with them is one of the many ways we could improve our education system. If everyone gets mentored and is given some guidance, I believe there will be no college dropouts, quitting jobs, late realizations, and missing opportunities.
Want to know more about what students are expecting from educational institutions, what changes need to be brought in our education system, and how much better the society looks when combined with education?
Join me and 5 other youth finalists as we engage with senior decision-makers and policymakers on the purpose of education on August 28th, 31st, and September 2nd by signing up as a delegate (Ask questions, and express your thoughts).

As part of the UN75 initiative, the United Nations in India launched the #UnitedForHope campaign in partnership with Youth Ki Awaaz with the aim to create meaningful conversations with as many people as possible: to listen to their hopes and fears; learn from their experiences; and empower them to think and act globally.
With the spirit of “We The Peoples” at its core, the campaign provides an opportunity for the global public, especially young people, to share their ideas on how to tackle the developmental challenges of today, and build a better future for everyone, everywhere.
