Sometimes, all we can do is ‘hope’, that things will turn out to be good and work in our favor. That’s what I thought when I gave my last exam for my final year. And that is how the class of 2020 comes to an end.
Pursuing Bachelors in Life Sciences from Delhi University, which conducted an ‘Open Book Examination’ or OBE, didn’t leave us with too many options. All we could think about was getting done with my exams (which had been putting all of us on an Achilles’ hill for the past three months).
With no farewell parties, no futuristic speech from our teachers, no getting drunk on the nostalgia of three years, it all came to an end. Well, honestly, I have very little clue if I would be able to grant my acquaintances a fair goodbye. All my friends and I had decided to put up a ravishing saree on our farewell, but the unprecedented situation that embarked upon the whole world squeaked the dreams and divulged the career path of many, especially those who had already taken admission in colleges abroad.
Now, what exactly are we supposed to do? This has been the question that has snatched away the sleep of many of us from the day we gave our last exam.
According to many people, education-activists, the best thing a nouveau graduate can do given the current situation is: work upon acquiring tremendous ‘soft-skills’, get adhered to knowledge in multiple ‘cross fields’, land a decent internship and create a ‘network-pool’ (wherein you craft a community of like-minded people who are dealing with the same problems as yours).
The problems might vary from a wide array, starting right from financial discrepancies, issues with parents and mental health issues. Fighting off an atrocity when you’re a part of a group becomes much easier and more interesting rather than standing in your battlefield all alone.
The situation hasn’t left us with too many options on the table, but as I said earlier, all we can do is ‘hope’ for the good, and work the best way out of a vague situation by acquiring the aforementioned ideas and inculcating the same into our lives.
Let’s not give up!
