For Believing In Me More Than I Did In Myself, I Owe You One, Sir

Dear Tapas Sir,

We all have a cheerleader in our life who stands beside us despite all odds. In my life, you were that person. You are the man who not just motivates and inspires me but also believes in me more than any person I can ever think off. You are the person who shaped me into the confident and positive person who I am today.

Rewind to 2015, I was in 8th grade when you stepped in my life as a guiding light in the disguise of a maths tutor. It was a point when my procrastination took a tool over everything in my life and maths gave me anxiety, not fear, but anxiety. Most of my Maths exams went with me falling sick and even fainting inside the examination room and gradually, I started considering myself a failure.

When all my teachers had given up on me and thought that teaching me Maths was a waste of time, you were the one who had an astonishingly positive attitude towards me. I call it astonishing because no one had ever shown so much of belief and confidence towards in all my life. I vividly remember how after my first class, when my father asked you if there was any chance of improvement in me, you smiled and told him that I shall soar someday.

Trust me, that’s the best thing anyone has ever said told me till date. Years passed and there wasn’t a very vast improvement in marks but your confidence towards we just kept rising each day. Every time I was scared that you’d scold me after knowing my poor marks, you surprisingly ended up appreciating my efforts and hardwork. Fast forward to 2017, the year of my 10th board exams, the month of November had arrived and there was no improvement in my Maths marks.

Despite trying very hard, I ended up failing in my Maths paper in preboards. I was anxious and sad, my parents were stressed and Maa wasn’t able to sleep at night. At a time when I had lost all hopes, you were the only person pushing me up. There was this one time when I started crying out of fear in front of you and you told me, “You have no idea how amazing and talented you are. Even if you fail, I don’t care because I know that you deserve bigger things in life which you will surely achieve one day. Remember positivity is the key to success.

Believe in yourself and be positive about your life, no matter what the result is, it will be for the best. Just promise me to keep working hard till your last breath, because the day you stop doing so, you will be like a living body with a dead soul. The beauty of life is in putting efforts to make it worth living every second so that once you lay down on your death bed you are proud of yourself.”

Even every time I feel like losing, I recall these words that never fail in motivating me. On the day of my results, the only thing that bothered me was what if I let you down, but thanks to you, I ended doing really well. I still remember you were the happiest person in the room that day.

Years have passed and every time I feel anxious about anything, just a phone call with you calms me down. By now, my parents have started considering you as a blessing as well. They owe you for making me the person I am today. You have become a part of our family now and that makes us more than happy. I feel so lucky that lucky even post-school, you are still there to support and encourage me in every move I make in my life.

Thank you for believing in me, more than I believe in myself. Thank you for encouraging me to never stop. Thank you for supporting me in every step I take. Thank you for inspiring me with your positivity and zest in life. Thank you for turning me from a procrastinating kid into a confident person that I am today. Thank you for being the cheerleader of my life. Sir, I will always be indebted to you for shaping me into a better person and I promise to keep working hard in life.

Thanking you,
Your hardworking student
Shardha
