Cracks In The Fourth Pillar Of Democracy?

Sure, the media is becoming biased towards the type of content it chooses to deliver as news.

For the last couple of years, media has witnessed a trend of focusing on one particular topic and showing it through various channels for days, sometimes weeks. The topic being shown as news could be of importance but it surely isn’t the ONLY topic of concern existing in the country. The portrayal of just one topic of news or news story negates all other important issues that the country is facing and needs the attention of the citizens. This leads to a deliberate shift in the viewer’s focus of news from what is actually important to what is considered important by the media.

The youth is concerned about a number of topics that would directly or indirectly affect their future course of action as a citizen or affect the way they perceive certain issues prevailing in the country. By showing one particular news story as “breaking news” in all news channels, the media tries to break the focus point and seriousness of the youth as an important section of the society.

The media with its “agenda” (in terms of content) is keeping the youth of our country in the dark by blurring the lines between the important issues of the country and highlighting certain unimportant “news” stories. This pattern of the media indicates that there are cracks in the fourth pillar of our country’s democracy.
