Dear Future Teachers, Here’s A Mission For You To Accomplish

a group of school kids reading from a single computer

Over the years, I have been educating myself. Coming to a platform where I am asked to introspect the process I have undergone, I thought it would be helpful for someone else to make theirs better. In India, education has a lot of peer pressure and is deemed inevitable to make it a happy experience. Though I say school was the best experience for me till date, I should also add that the Indian classroom learning does not promote happy classroom and happy learning.

Though I can convince my failures as they have been my stepping stones right now, there can be others who didn’t succeed like me. Is that because of inability? Not at all. There are voids in the system that malfunction the process.

So, What Is Failing Our Present Education System So Miserably?

Why is failure seen as a sin and success celebrated as permanent? Its high time we treat both equally and go further.

I think the education that we want for our future does not merely prepare us to cross thresholds of standard tests but prepares us to master what we wish to do in our lives. What roles can teachers play? They can bring students out the stereotypes that the society and their parents force on them, building logical thinking capabilities and leadership skills.

Our present education system is on the verge of the shift from industrialization revolution to the information revolution.

There is information everywhere around you and what you need is just the logic to use them at the right time. For example, with very average chemistry knowledge, I still have the opportunity to do cutting edge research in prestigious labs of the world.

That’s because of the understanding of how to use the information and has nothing to do with my grades. The society is changing as technology develops. As educators, there is a need to develop entrepreneurs of change rather than professionals. In this age of automation and AI, humans have landed up with actions that blur our future until we get to that point of time. This uncertainty is the biggest challenge for any student worldwide. Outgrowing the challenges and growing in adversity can happen through skill-building as our potential weapon.
