Iran, or formerly known as Persia, is an ancient nation. Susa city of Iran is the world’s oldest city, Iran shares its border with seven countries. The official language of instruction in Iran is Farsi. English and French are taught in most private schools.
Dabestân – Primary School
Grades 1 to 5 or the age group 6 -11. After completing five years of school, students must appear in a nation-wide exam to reach the next level.
Rahnamaei – Secondary Education
The middle school is also known as the lower secondary school: 6th To 8th standard or age group 6 – 11. Students must appear in a region-wide exam which is directed by the local provisional board of education. After clearing this exam, they get promoted to the next level.
Pish-Daneshgahi/Pre-University Certificate
This is the 4th year extension or grade 12.
After successfully acing the national university entrance examination, students get enrolled in universities in Iran. It is a very intensive and gruelling examination.
Iran houses over 50 public universities, 40 public institutions in medical studies, and 200 private post-secondary institutions. Iranian universities are best known for their programs in chemistry, medicine, engineering, and physics. Many international students come to Iran to study the culture and history of the region.

According to 2015 estimates, the literacy rates of Iran’s total population – age 15 and over – is 86.8% of which 92.1% are male, and 82.5% are female.
