“Gurur Brahma, Gurur Vishnu, Gurur Devo Maheshwara;
Guru Sakshat Para Brahma Tasmai Shree Guruve Namah”

You might have heard this shlok (verse). It means: “A teacher is given equal status to that of the Tridev.” But not anymore. I believe that teaching is the most underrated profession as we fail to see the impact of it on our lives and the values it provides. Kids carry what they are taught at a young age throughout the rest of their lives.

I was quite mean to some of my teachers in school and even in my college. And not just me, we all dislike our teachers most of the time, let’s accept it. Teachers get less respect, and the fun fact is that they know it — especially these days when we all are in lockdown because someone in China ate a bat.

Nowadays, they are working very hard as the teaching pattern has changed during the pandemic. The classroom has shifted to online learning as schools continue to remain shut. It’s a struggle for both the students as well as the teachers. Students like me don’t understand half of the lessons even in the real classroom, and with the teacher on a computer screen, it’s a real challenge. Teachers may be our mentor, but when it comes to technology; they are the newbies. But how we, the students, are treating them is disheartening.

If a teacher beats a child, it is an offence and also punishable under section 323 of IPC, but is there any punishment for students who are logging in with fake names, like Mia Khalifa, Sunny Leone, and Sheila Ki Jawani?

This new normal comes with new opportunities for students to bully their respected teachers. Online classes are turning out to be a nightmare for teachers; indeed, from smoking amid zoom class to sleeping students, playing abusive videos, and bullying — online courses are a nightmare for teachers. YouTube is flooded with videos of “online classes gone wrong.”

However, many of them are exploring new ways of teaching during the lockdown. Remember that Chemistry teacher’s jugaad who had shared a video that shows her writing on a chalkboard while she gives her lesson. For her student to see the chalkboard, the teacher—who did not have a tripod—came up with a hack.

Recently, a photo of a teacher’s jugaad to use a refrigerator tray to make online classes easier for her students has won the Internet.

Anyways, happy teacher’s day.
