Lockdown Forces Students To Study For Both Bachelor’s And Master’s Degrees Simultaneously

“I have failed my exams and my seat has been cancelled,” I woke up to this nightmare last night. It’s been overwhelming for students since the Supreme Court’s announced its verdict of making it mandatory for undergraduate and postgraduate students to appear for their final year examination. Already juggling inestimable problems (of the pandemic), this decision is like a rock thrown at a shivering pile of Jenga.

While some of us are still figuring out our career plans in these colossally uncertain times, a few are preparing for entrance examinations for further studies, some are left with nothing to do, and some others have started with their higher studies through the online mode.

I personally have started with my post-graduation classes online and feel privileged to have this opportunity to study, while so many have lost livelihoods. Despite that, my situation comes with a bunch of its own problems.

Due to SC’s verdict on making final exams for college students mandatory, it would be difficult to study for both my graduate final exams and post graduation classes simultaneously.

Private universities and colleges have already started demanding a higher fee and begun with their classes online. Projects, assignments, extra co-curricular, pending deadlines, weekly exams have already started to line up and students are grinding themselves enough.

The online teaching platform is new, and all of us are trying to make peace with it, and not feel swamped. It would be near to impossible to study for both my graduate final exams and then my post-graduation classes simultaneously.

For some, their post-graduation courses are nonpareil to their graduation ones. With an existent gap of about six months, full of uncertainties and tragedies, our focus on studies has already been unnerved. The health risks involved are not new to us too anymore. We have been told on the 11th of September by our University that we have an open-book online examination from 21st and no further information has been given. We’ve been left jeopardised.
