I Have Anxiety, And This Is How The Pandemic Affected Me

Due to the Coronavirus lockdown, there has been a lot of tension and uncertainty regarding our futures, and about what will happen when all of this is over.

For somebody who has insomnia and anxiety, I was at the mercy of my mental health and its deterioration during the lockdown.

There is a mental health crisis brewing in India right now with the Coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown. Many Indians are worried that their time in isolation will lead to depression, uncertainty, stress, worry, and anxiety.

For a person like me, who is a mental health patient and must depend on medicines, having been prescribed a high dosage for anxiety and depression, not having any essential services or support system has been difficult.

It was extremely difficult, during the lockdown, to get my hands upon supplies of medicines in any chemist shop. Since these medicines are scheduled and therefore need a prescription, they are not easily available in any chemist shop and can only be available on special order.

What this basically means is that during a lockdown, I will have to go without these medicines. This creates immense pressure because not only am I isolating myself in a room and from my support systems, which already takes a toll on my mental health, but also, I have to go without the meds. And, for somebody who has insomnia and anxiety, I was at the mercy of my mental health and its deterioration during the lockdown.

How Do We Deal With This Problem?

My main tip is to limit and moderate how much news you consume. A lot of this, I feel, contributes to the feelings of anxiety and helplessness. The feelings of anger, frustration and fear are natural, and it is important to recognise and befriend our feelings and have access to mental health resources if needed.
