Has The Pandemic Only Been A Bane To Us? Nature Disagree

india lockdown

First things first, I know very well that all of us are eagerly waiting for a Covid-free world, where we can kiss without masks, shake hands without sanitisers and go far without bounds and fear. May be 2020 will get the ‘award for the most cursed year in modern history’. Even students who were fond of holidays are blaming and cursing the year 2020 for making them sit home and attend online classes.

The death of our favorite celebrities, Sushant Singh Rajput, Irrfan Khan, Rishi Kapoor, Asif Basra etc. make us even more sad. This is another reason to blame 2020. Saying short, 2020 is a black mark on the whiteboard called history.

Taking the case of nature, I personally think that the Covid-19 pandemic is a boon. Remember the world before this pandemic. Rivers can’t be called rivers anymore. They are the main source of dumping polythene bags, torn pieces of clothes, packets of junk food, even human waste.

Rivers and ponds are the main source of spreading diseases like dengue fever, malaria, filariasis etc. Even the outer space hasn’t been spared from this. It has also been turned into a ‘dustbin’, where all the remains of unsuccessful or abandoned satellites and other space waste can be found. Imagine, there are satellites rounding above our  heads rights now. Earth can only be seen as a clear and clean planet in the picture below.

In reality, more than half of this Earth is covered with different types of wastes. However, this situation has significantly improved since the pandemic. I’m not saying that our planet is completely clean after this pandemic, but I can assure you that the cleaning process has started after the pandemic.

People are not going out except when necessary because the police is there to control everyone. Awareness classes are being held in different parts of the world to spread awareness on how dreadful the Covid-19 virus is. Many people are studying waste management. Cities such as Delhi are well-known for the pollution there. I really felt that our Mother Earth and Nature were choking while breathing the polluted dirty air from factories, vehicles etc.

The Nature serves everyone by giving fresh water, trees etc. However, we continue exploiting nature by doing different things. Yet, nature continues to serve us with its trees. Humans are cutting down the same trees and causing deforestation. We now are sitting on iron benches in parks for relaxing. There was a time when people used to sit under trees to relax and talk. Because of the pandemic, no one is going out or cutting trees unwanted. As a result of this, the rate of cutting of trees has also decreased. New saplings are coming too, because it’s the rainy season.

Another great thing is the work of doctor and nurses. Though I know this is an article about nature, I couldn’t resist saying this. There are no words to describe their dedication towards their work. They are not even thinking of their own health or their family’s, all they are doing is working without getting tired.

They are trying their best in treating Covid patients. They have to stay all day long in PPE kits. You know how hard it is to cover yourself like that in such a hot climate. They can’t even remove their mask and get some fresh air. Once they wear the kit, they can’t even go to the toilet without taking off the entire kit.

In short, making my stand clear, I think Covid- 19 or the coronavirus is a boon in the case of nature. I think our Mother Earth and Nature are relaxing. Rivers are flowing freely, there are no polythene bags, less number of people out there, less packets of junk food, no plastic juice bottles, no deforestation, no glass bottles of Brandy or Whiskey, no block of drainage. I know this picture can’t be recreated today. But I really wish for this to happen.

Oh mother Earth and nature
I’m happy for you.
Because you are healing.”
