How Long Till We Normalise Conversations Around Mental Health?

We live in a society where “Koi nahi beta, sabke saath hota hain (It’s alright dear, this happens with everyone)” is the answer to every problem or an excuse to bury all voices.

Dear uncle, aunties, friends, brothers and sisters,

“Sabke saath nahi hota (Everyone goes through it)”, but if our society is right and “sabke saath hota hain”, then I think it’s more important to talk about it because a large number of people are suffering.

One out of all the issues where I have witnessed people irresponsibly commenting has been around the topic of mental health: “Mental health, kuch nahi hota ye sab (There is nothing called mental health)”, “Itna bhi kya ho jaata hai mental illness se, koi problem hai toh thoda break lo, sab sahi ho jayega (Mental health is not a big deal. Just take a break and everything will get better)” or “Time ke saath sab sahi ho jata hain, it’s no big deal (Time heals everything, it’s no big deal).”

When will we realise that it really is a big deal? Why do we normalise by saying all such things instead of seeking professional help? Due to  the pandemic, the mental health condition of many has further deteriorated even more (with a rise of around 20%).

Let’s normalise talking about it. Like really talking about it (it’s easy to talk about mental health when some related case becomes a trend, but what after that? Our country is still facing a mental health crisis). Let us all share and talk with our close ones about mental health and take the right step at the right time.

I don’t have technical or professional knowledge about the field, but I know that sometimes, all we need is the courage to talk about things that are bothering us.

Take care you all.

And always remember, “A healthy body resides in a healthy MIND.” Mental health matters. Maybe our parents and grandparents have not heard about these things, but changes happen and we adapt. Let’s adapt this and spread awareness about mental health. ❤
