“Marriage Is A Symbol Of Love And Trust. Let It Be.”

A still from the Tanishq ad.

The society has deep faith in both religion and marriage. Moreover, religion is a symbol of life and humanity in India, so marriage is said to be the paramount practice of love, where families are connected.

This could be the reason why MP Hukmichand ji, in his debate in the Parliament, said that if an inter-caste Marriage Bill is passed, then casteism will be destroyed.

Marriage is a bond of love, between two individual and two families. How could it become a subject of terror?

Once again this marriage is made to be a subject controversy due to an advertisement which showed a family celebrating a traditional South Indian baby shower ceremony. Obviously, people who are spoiling the beauty of marriage and converting it into a game of revenge may be ignored.

A still from the deleted ad.

Dear readers, I am putting my view with love and I don’t mean to hurt your sentiments.

I strongly believe in respecting:

– The choice of individual

– Every religion

– Constitution

Therefore just take a step back and think, what if the situation was reversed? What if it was a Muslim woman in the advertisement? There could be controversy in this situation also, but from the Muslim community. According to this, the real problem is hovering around the woman, as to which community she belongs to.

Why am I talking only for women?

Here you are able to connect better than our Society predicts two things.

1) Part of revenge:

Groom and his family might torture the bride”

Do we really care and give so much importance to women? Do we respect them if she is married into the same casts and the same religion? At this point I would like to quote the words by most parents, “ab sasural hi tumhara ghar hai” (Your in-laws’ place is your own now). They (many of them) don’t care even if their daughter suffer a lot.

Are we still thinking that women can’t take a stand for themselves? Do we still think women don’t have the right to choose their partner?

We have to accept that every individual has their own choices to choose the life partner. She would have the right to separate from partner under the supervision of the constitution.

2) “Conversion of religion – hence the fear of existence”

People predict that if women change their religion, the next generation will belong to the religion to which she belongs. Just wait a minute… I am confused. Since childhood, I’ve heard “ladki hui to vansh aage kaise badega.” (How will our lineage continue if we have a daughter?)

Even though women take a major part in the procreation, she has to adopt another surname and religion. These are, again, subjects of deep conversation. Although a ‘marriage’ is just a ritual, it balances the relationship between two families.

As I already mentioned, marriage is a symbol of love and trust. Let it be.
