Get Off Social Media: How To Take Care Of Your Mental Health

The word ‘mental’ in mental health, mental issues, mental illness etc. itself triggers whenever it enter our ears. Everyone has their own definition and experience regarding mental issues and conditions, but the most positive word here is ‘health’, which is defined as the state of being mentally, physically, socially, economically, emotionally and psychologically fit, and not just a mere absence of sickness.

Good mental health is a combination of a variety of positive vibes that come from living a stress-free life, being socially active and, of course, economically strong. Bad mental health, on the other hand, ranges from stress to pain and even death that is cost to life and lost to acquaintances.

A patient or any human being with health issues, or better say mental illness, behaves differently, thinks from another perspective, feels frivolous a lot of the times. Even their way of communicating with others changes. Studies shows that behind all this is negativity. But with all these, we need to remember that mental health issues and mental illnesses are two different things. It is a mental health issue, like daily life stress, which sometimes lead to mental illnesses, such as depression or any kind of phobia etc.

Some rare cases are genetic, but there are so many individual factors and parameters of life that bring about such issues. One may become patient because of blood relative inheritance. It also happens because of life experiences, such as a heartbreak or a loved one’s death. It also finds its patients in the form of diabetic people, those suffering from brain injuries or anyone taking drugs.

In this modern era of social media, you can find people going through depression because of the activities of our virtual world — getting less likes and comments can make them feel awful or ugly. Instead of self-trust and self-confidence about their beauty and looks, they trust those comments that has made people lie. Mental health and disorders can be observed more in the young generation. These conditions are of such serious nature that they can lead to suicide; a person commits suicide somewhere in the world every 40 seconds.

But don’t forget, we are social animals and need people, though some are introverts. But the truth is we need humans like us to talk to, share our feelings with, feel, connect with, boost, plan with, grow with and earn and learn from. The absence of real people in our life triggers us to such mental health issues.

Yes, we live in the internet era, but we cannot replace social media and the new way of virtual socialisation by sending and accepting requests. The feel and emotion with real life socialisation with real people is what is more important to maintain good mental health and live  a happy life.

Social media was introduced to connect people who live away, but don’t forget, it is disconnecting us from people sitting beside us or people who are closer. Whenever you feel that your social media habits are affecting your life and mind, start making distance from social media platforms and start living and enjoying the beautiful real world .

Your age doesn’t matter, if you are a human, you have the full right to live happily without succumbing to mental health illnesses. The very first thing that one should do is start socialising in the real world with real people. Stick to a daily routine and don’t forget to include meditation in it. Explore and learn something new everyday. Manage and don’t stress about your finances, because life is the most precious finance you have. Even if you are not good at making art, try to be creative everyday. Make more and more good connections, eat healthy and last but not the least, stay away from bad influences and negative people.
