Optimism And Keeping Ourselves Busy Can Save Us From The Demons Of Depression

For most of the time in 2020, we have been at our homes; all the time inside the four walls can get depressing. As a mental health researcher and an MBBS student, I will discuss about this in this article. Mental health was one of the most neglected words up till 2019. But in 2020, many have come to understand the importance of this word.

Depression, anxiety and OCD have become common words in our life, but have you thought about why we face these conditions? Mood, the most mysterious thing in medical science, is still covered with mystery, although now, we can understand moods through different scales like the DASS 21, PSQI, Columbia Suicide scale, Smoking Scale, Iot and WHO alcohol consumption scales. So don’t be afraid to test yourself on these scales. Remember, a good health is a combination of both physical and mental health. Consult a psychologist if needed.

Now, in this lockdown, it’s become quite ordinary to go through depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, mobile addictions, smoking and alcohol tendency and high suicidal tendency. So I will recommend chat with friends on video call. If you are a researcher, this is the best time to finish your paperwork, publish your research paper and review research papers. If you are an author, write more and more, and publish it. If you love cooking, cook new kinds of food and open a YouTube channel to show your cooking. So, I want to tell you one thing, find positivity and do what you like. Don’t think about negativity. It’s a hard time for everyone, but it’s the best time to work on your passion, your creativity.

How am I dealing with this time, Richa from Youth Ki Awaaz asked me this question. As an MBBS student, I am attending online classes and studying very hard. Utilising this time in the best way. As world’s one of the youngest researcher on oncology, I am finishing all my paperwork and in 2020, I published most of my pending research papers. Currently, I have 22 research papers with me.

So, don’t be depressed. Think positive, stay positive. It’s the best time to work on your passion and creativity, so utilise this time in a effective way. Depression and anxiety are not a solution. Don’t smoke or drink because these are not a solution of anything either. It will make you ill and you won’t be able to enjoy the time when the world will be Covid-free.

So, thanks Richa for inviting me to write this article. Everyone stay healthy, stay safe and stay great both in physically and mentally.
