We Need To #BoycottStereotypes, Not #BoyottTanishq

A still from the Tanishq ad that was pulled off air after outrage.

While the entire country is reeling under the grip of the Coronavirus, which has impacted our lives and economy like never before, a new surge of catastrophe is what many people have been ‘spreading’ since the Tanishq ad on ‘Ekatvam’ was released.

While discussion and deliberation on issues in a democratic country are always welcomed, our mindset is being tested again and again and creating a shameful environment.

A still from the Tanishq advertisement.

Are we still living in an era where we cannot tolerate a Hindu girl and a Muslim Boy falling in love, marrying, or sharing rituals? India is a secular country but we don’t seem to be one. We are different from the spirit of the country where we are born and brought up and living a different life.

The internet has already been divided between the supporters and boycotters of the Tanishq ad, but the big question is on our mindset. Demeaning the secular spirit of India and the rights of people cannot be compromised at any point. We are wasting more energy than contributing to nation-building. By this, are we not trying to create a dirty and chaotic India other than what ‘Real India’ is and should be celebrated about.

The immediate remedy for this catastrophe is to look back on ourselves. And most importantly, we must unite against this force of spreading negativity and religious bigotry and teaming up our effort to #BoycottStereotypes, from #BoyottTanishq.
