The media attention and the public outrage has put a lot of pressure on the government in the gangrape case of the Dalit girl. Many have taken to social media to express their concerns over the issue of women safety in the country.
The Delhi gangrape case shook the whole country in 2012, but nothing seems to have changed. According to NCRB data, more than 68 girls and women were raped every day in 2012. The number had only increased to 91.38 in 2018. Is this what we expect in the Indian society, preaches “Mathru Devo Bhava” (Mother is equal to god)?

Let’s put aside the role of the state for a while. In this digital era, we always come across uncanny tweets by people who say “change in the dress will lead to a decrease in the cases” Really?
