Not Everyone Can Be Positive In The Face Of A Pandemic, And That’s Okay

We may not be able to witness our own eulogy, but we’re actually writing it all the time, every day” -Arianna Huffington

Well, during the lockdown it seemed like I had forgotten the nearby places(okay, okay, I’m exaggerating a little). I am a government exam aspirant preparing for government bank exams. My whole day would be spent on studies before the lockdown, so I did not think that the lockdown would be so challenging. But I admit it was so! Cricket matches in the evening and subsequent snacks used to be the most exciting thing of the day. Mornings would happen early because my father used to wake us up early in the morning. The time was quite difficult for us too as my father had not received any income in the last seven months. Since we had our savings, so we endured it somehow.

It Happened Just As I Feared

Last year, when we got this news of coronavirus in November, I was alerted to this thing. I discussed a lot about it with my students and my friends but only a few of them understood it very well. What happened later was exactly what we had all feared. Cases were reported in our country too. What hurt the most was the labour migration. I live near Anand Vihar area. I can recall what I saw with my own yes- vulnerable families and kids unknowingly moving to their native places without any arrangement at all.

Here Are A Few Stories That I Have To Share

Ishita and Khushi are two kids who live near to my place. Their father worked in a hotel. Due to this pandemic, he lost his job. They were living in a rented apartment, but after losing his job, they moved to their village. They haven’t returned yet. The kids are so young, one is in 4 and the other one in 6th.

Ayush, one of my students( I do tutoring also), is in 9th standard. His father was not able to pay the school fee so the school blocked his class ID through which he used to attend the online classes. That day, he shared with me how he felt. Children have suffered a lot during this and nobody has actually spoken enough about it. People who used to do some other work have also started selling vegetables.

It has been difficult for many people to handle themselves and show positivity and perseverance. Even bad incidents are lessons. There are things which are not in our control but at the same time what we can control seems obscure to us. But I am thankful that atleast people have begun talking about mental health issues. Thank you.
