When you have the supposedly most powerful man on the planet talk about grabbing women by their privates and then more alarmingly continue to enjoy the support and even adulation of at least half the populace in the so-called citadel of democracy. And when this nation gives direction to the currents of the world, then there is not much left to be said about the present state of affairs.
What some of those at the pinnacles of power have gotten away with under the garb of plain talk and rhetoric speaks volumes about a sea of humanity that clearly seems to have lost the plot. No wonder then that the scale of atrocities and injustices grows exponentially decade after decade.
The recent upheaval comes as a welcome reprieve with power changing hands from the insane to the seemingly sane. Those nauseous in an era spearheaded by someone whose itinerary included hate, bigotry, blatant misogyny, racism, and otherisation are finally heaving a sigh of relief.
Hopefully, their star-spangled aspirations of a hate-free progressive society that would pave the way for the rest of humanity to follow shall come true. With the building of walls finally off the agenda, the newly-elected policymakers are now free to focus on building and strengthening ties with the rest of the world.
It wouldn’t, after all, be asking too much of a nation that swears to invest its trust in God.
