Banks’ Levy On Deposits, Withdrawal Looks Odd

The fresh rule in regard to deposit and withdrawal is tedious. It is being said that while the first three withdrawal transactions of every month will be free, a fee of Rs 150 will be charged beyond that. Similarly, for deposits, Rs 40 will be levied after the first three transactions in the banks. This will further restrain the average goers to the bank as they would not like to pay fine. It is more like the school authorities who charge fine for depositing the term fee after a certain date. Their fine also remains quite huger before the guardians. If the Congress party criticises the new norm, it is not against the people’s sentiment.

Congress General Secretary, Randeep Singh Surjewala condemning the Central government on the issue said, “Modi Sarkar ka naya kamar tod tohfa. Ab khud ka paisa bank mein jama karwane aur nikalwane par bhi bank karenge vasooli” (New gift of the Modi government. Now one’s own money will be charged for deposits and withdrawals by banks).”

In the meantime, days after its new cash deposit and withdrawal charges took effect, Bank of Baroda on Tuesday withdrew the new changes with immediate effect.

“We refer to our circular No.HO: BR: 112:393 dated 29.09.2020 regarding revision of Cash related service charges related to basic services w.e.f 01.11.2020. In view of the current prevailing COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the Economy, it has been decided to withdraw the above circular with immediate effect,” the public sector lender said in its latest circular.
