#BlackLivesMatter: Does Your Lifestyle Verify Your Social Media Hashtags?

I am writing this article because this is the new hashtag trending on every social media platform. We are aware of things we are trying to be a part of, we are trying to create a change by posting on social media, we are trying to start a movement against racism.

I value each and every person’s view, I value social media movements. Yes, finally we are in that digital era where the whole world can participate in any movement, we all can contribute to changing the orthodox mindset. This power is really amazing.

Everyone should speak but only if they want, there should be no force on anyone. Social media has given all of us the freedom to speak on every matter but we should realize that if some people aren’t speaking on an issue, it doesn’t mean that they are supporting the wrong stance.

People who speak on only selected matters are not wrong. Just because they have not spoken on some issues doesn’t mean that they have lost their right of speaking against other things too.

Activism has found a new platform in the times of the pandemic.

Putting hashtags on social media is justified only when you start working towards that in your real life too. I want to tell the people who put hashtags like #BlackLivesMatter, that you are courageous, you are raising your voice and that’s not easy but make sure that your words are not just words. Make sure your actions are speaking the same language as your words.

Make sure you are no longer any fairness cream. Make sure you are not calling your friends ‘Brownie’ or ‘Black Coffee’. Make sure you are not using filters in your photos. Make sure you are not judging any of your classmates, colleagues or strangers because of their dark complexion.

Make sure you are not looking for a fair complexion groom or bride. The social media world is virtual but make sure your posts are not just for a virtual change.
