I Don’t Think India Is A ‘Tolerant’ Country Anymore

India—the first thing which enters our mind is the heterogeneous place of different cultures, races, the home ground of different religions i.e, a pluralistic society. It has a rich cultural heritage, even nurturing the weakest one in her bosom for it to survive.

But recent times have stirred up various religious loopholes amidst the whole country. It would be unfair to say that race supremacy was predominant in India. If we untangle the pages of history the lower caste communities (Dalit communities) were always abused, isolated.

Religious intolerance has become very active in these recent years. If we frame it in a more ‘courteous’ way, the recent political tussle found a way to use religion as a way to create segregation inside the minds of the people.

The autocratic government brought Hinduism as the main religion of supremacy all over India while creating a distinction and segregating others, creating communal disruption. It is heartbreaking to see India, the largest democratic nation in the world, have such religious intolerance within the minds of the people.

To be very honest such divisions rise due to people not being open-minded and having an orthodox mentality in this modern era.

So I will not be ashamed to say in this current scenario, India is NOT a tolerant country. But, everything lies in the hands of the citizens of this great nation. Instead of believing this failed media (which shows one side of the coin) and the ‘dictatorial’ government, we should try to achieve the greater good, that is communal harmony.

Ending with Nehru’s quote, “Live and let live.
