Kamala Harris’ Political and Social Career
Harris ran for District Attorney of San Francisco in 2004 and won with 56% of the votes, becoming the first person of colour elected as district attorney of San Francisco. She challenged for U.S. the Senate elections and upon winning in 2016 arose as the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to assist the United States Senate.
Harris has served as the junior United States senator from California since 2017. Harris had also served as the Attorney General of California between 2011 and 2017 and as the District Attorney of San Francisco from 2004 to 2011.
The Indian American community was overjoyed by her selection. In her presidential campaign last year, Kamala Harris pitched herself as a history-making candidate who could appeal to both progressives and moderates.
Rather than trying to upend the economy, her policies sought incremental, targeted results, particularly focusing on historically marginalised groups like women, people of colour and low-income Americans. Her sharp debate skills and friendly personality made her a top-tier contestant in the early stages of the primary race.
Harris believes that serious crimes deserve serious consequences. “We cannot overlook or ignore that mother’s pain, that child’s death, that murderer who still walks the streets,” she writes. All sections of U.S. society and other country’s people are expecting a real democracy with the entry of Kamala Harris. She is considered a progressive prosecutor who surely will play a significant role in the path of justice and quality.
She is the role model for millions of women who are deprived and isolated in sections of society. Kamala Harris has broken the glass ceiling at the global level. Now every woman in the world has a reformist persecutor who is there to make their way broader and full of courage for those who lost their courage and are living a disheartened life.
