“Soil is the great connector of the lives and Source and destination for all” said activist Wendell Berry. We can’t imagine life without soil its needed but what will happen if it is destroyed?🌍🌏🌎
World Soil Day is celebrated on December 5 to commemorate the birthday of the late H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the King of Thailand, and today it is celebrated worldwide.
We have been ignoring the needs of the soil and we are destroying it and we’re not even concerned about it. Soil erosion is one of the major problems which makes land unfit for cultivation, which then leads to the lesser production of crops. Not only does the soil give us food, but it is also a home for many useful bacteria and other organisms. Soil pollution affects everything, from the air, water, and our food. The soil doesn’t have infinite resistance against pollutants, and sadly, one-third of worlds’ soil has eroded.
What are the problems we are facing because of soil pollution? Soil equivalent to one soccer pitch is eroded every 5 seconds. Imagine the condition of our planet, oh my God! And trust me it takes 1,000 years to make just 2cm-3cm layer of soil.
Soil erosion is caused by large-scale deforestation, and due to pollution of the soil, the animals residing over there are also under major threat. Unsustainable methods of farming should be avoided and the farmers should switch to methods like terrace farming and crop rotation wherever possible.
Life without soil is death. We can just die due to starvation, and it is in our hands to prevent all this. The soil cover also helps in reducing landslides and floods. We can only get healthy food from healthy soil. We may even lose essential bacteria which may lead to excess mortality of humans.
What can we do ?🤷♀️
Its in our hands to save our future please support this so that we can create a better future.😊
