The Challenge Behind Thinking Positively

Your mind is a garden and thoughts are seeds. You can choose to grow flowers or develop weeds.

We often find ourselves uttering this statement to prove to ourselves that its’ not meant for us or that we are not the ones entitled to this good fortune. It’s easy to be at peace with ourselves for the moment by saying that. But human, being a social animal and living in an ever changing environment, is never satisfied with what he has. Sooner or later, the desire to go ahead crops up. With this desire, comes the struggle of preparing for accepting the associated challenges. This is where attitude comes into the picture.

Our Brain Is Programmed To Fear An Experience That Has Not Been Good In The Past

Attitude is an entity that characterizes a person. Driven by past experiences, influenced by environmental attributes and expressed by evaluating something to a certain degree of favour or disfavour : it’s a way of thinking that decides our response towards a person or situation. Given the complex nature of this defining personality trait, it is very important to precisely analyze what kind of thoughts make up our attitude.

Usually, it’s very difficult to imagine the good if we have seen the bad. That’s how our brain is programmed to think. The more we try to paint a colorful picture, the more black and white version is presented to us by our brain, which refuses to believe that colours can ever become a part of the picture.

Fear Reaffirms A Negative Attitude

We find ourselves constantly struggling to see the positive side of the situation, even if it seems to be favourable. We conclude the happenings in the form of an assumption that just because it has not worked in the past, it wont work now as well.

Apart from being driven by failures from the past, negative attitude finds it way through yet another source, i.e. fear. What if things don’t happen the way I want? This mostly happens when people start associating their state of happiness or contentment with some materialistic variable. They fear losing their job, getting separated from their partner or facing an embarrassing situation. They forget that everything that is bothering them is simply a reflection of their attitude towards the situation, rather than the situation itself.
