No Provision Of Land Compensation For Farmers In Satna For Drinking Water Project

farmers land compensation

The Bhopal pipeline is being put in fields between farmers. There is no provision for compensation of farmers’ land in the ongoing scheme of ₹1500 crore for drinking water supply in five tehsils of the Satna district.

Agreements are being made by the construction agency in the stamp to give compensation to the domineering farmers in the future silently. The Madhya Pradesh government has already made rules providing compensation for private land. The Jal Nigam Limited Board Company has to supply drinking water in 1,013 villages under five tehsils: Ramnagar, Maihar, Uchehra, Rampur, Baghelan and Amarpatan in the Satna district.

The company is making large pits on private lands of farmers and laying a pipeline in the middle of the fields due to which 10–20 meters wide land has become completely unusable. The contract for the construction of the intake WTP water tank has been awarded to L&T Company.

Subhash Pandey of Kisan Mahasangh, who fought the battle to give compensation to the farmers, said that only the Pipeline Duct Act, 2012, made by the Madhya Pradesh government, has a provision for compensation for private land.

The Human Rights Commission has issued instructions to the Satna Collector to take action in eight weeks. Shri Pandey had complained to the Human Rights Commission in New Delhi to give compensation to the farmers. Taking this into consideration, the commission ordered the Satna Collector to take action within eight weeks.

In November 2019, the Satna Collector wrote a letter to SDM Ramnagar to inform the applicant about the action. But the applicant was neither given anything nor informed about it.
