No More ‘Veeru Protests’ IN UP, As Govt Decides To Close Not-In-Use Water Tanks

Attention! Drama on the top of the water tank will no longer be tolerated as the UP government goes tight on it. It is 45 years after the site goes grey that the creators of Veerus will find an update on the actor’s follies and foibles that continued so far. Has something transpired to make us abandon that filmy scene in real life of which we used to speak so highly? Perhaps the moment we feared for so long has finally come to happen: Has that idea of climbing on water tank top been diluted in its regularity? It will no longer be available to watch the original in all its wild, loud dramatic spectacle.

The odd protest by going over the water tank top was widely familiarised after the film Sholay (1975). A vital character, Veeru, preferred a protest by climbing on top of the spherical water tank. Later, it turned to be a standard for many who either got hurt by something or unheard grievances or something along those pertinent lines resorted to that recourse. After a gap of about 45 years, it was found that this very practice was quite embarrassing and illogical and the state government proceeded to interrupt this unacceptable activity.

It ably makes the state government feel bad.  The film’s old lady was emotional to accept Veeru’s demand but the government has vowed to stop this kind of nonsense in reality at all. Therefore, the order to prevent further recurrences of suicidal threats as people climb onto water tanks to get their demands fulfilled was readied. The UP government has decided to lock the stairs and even demolish the unused ones.

(State’s Chief Secretary R.K. Tiwari has written a letter to district magistrates in this regard. He has requested them to ensure that the stairs to the water tank be closed and the ones that are not in use be destroyed. He has also asked for a report after the said investigation)

Although rave reviewers of the film were dazed as to how the film village got a water tank if there was no electricity there. The reservoir in the tower as shown in the film is spherical and possibly not cemented. Yet it can be said that the reservoir is structured in three varied shapes viz., spherical, cylindrical, or an ellipsoid. It is raised with a minimum height of nearly 6 metres (20 ft) and a minimum of 4 m (13 ft) in diameter.

If we study the size of the standard-sized water tower, it typically has a height of practically 40 m (130 ft). By reaching such an elevation one kept on bending the district administration. Now, the strict action against such sort of practice finishes the easy resort. When the stairs are locked, the polluted pace would also remain restrained. The image of the water tank was similar to that the film but in actuality, it has been changed now, a report said.
