Greed, Nepotism, Corruption, VIP Culture, Law makers are above law & enjoy the privileges’ of breaking the law are the hallmarks of India’s Politicians’, Politics and Polity. Politicians & Political Parties are above the law and don’t need to follow the Constitution of India though they take oath on it. Political parties who are always fighting with each other against the country’s interests collaborate & connive when it comes to their own vested interests be it hiking their own (MPs’, MLAs’) salaries, opposing the The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), Civil society campaign, movement to bring political parties under the ambit of RTI Act or agreeing for long pending electoral reforms, women’s reservation bill; et al, etcetera. Many of our MPs, MLAs are proud criminals, rapists, murderers, financial, business fraudsters, scamsters, bungling; etc.
There is a saying that “Power Corrupts & absolute power corrupts absolutely”. It is common knowledge that law in India is misused and applied selectively. The Police & the Judicial system (the Courts) are corrupt, get manipulated by the celebrities, powerful, rich, influential persons. There is hypocrisy, double standards in built in the system, law enforcement system in India due to which the rich & powerful get away while the common man is caught, harassed, tortured like anything by the police and the courts. The police in India can be very brutal and torturous while dealing with the general public, ordinary citizens while it looks the other way in case of rich & powerful. The courts are a little better but they can also be manipulated by the rich & powerful by hiring top lawyers and getting them quick justice. The lower judiciary (district courts) are not very professional and systematic in dealing with cases while the higher judiciary (high courts and the supreme court) are better, efficient, professional and justice giving but it is difficult for general public to access & approach the higher judiciary (high courts, supreme court) due to both money & other considerations.
Politicians & Political Parties are fooling the people of states & country every five years and because of illiteracy, people of India happily get fooled because during the election time, the politicians & political parties make false claims, promises, throw money around, giving freebies, viz. free booze in TN; etc. While voting, public, citizens has / have a herd (sheep herd walk) mentality (bhed chaal) and vote on considerations of caste, religion and not development.
For all these reasons, India is a sham democracy and a banana republic because rule of law doesn’t prevail in India. For this pitiable situation, all of us (public, citizens, civil society) including me are at fault because nobody knows, respects and follows the laws in India. It is a big joke as people instead of following the law feel happy & great at breaking the law. Indians in general have a “Chalta hai” (anything goes) attitude and don’t bother about quality, efficiency, productivity, punctuality; etc.
On the other hand, look at countries like China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Thailand; etc. who were also developing countries like India after the second world war (1945) but are now all as good as a developed country and at the same time, their citizens are very passionate, dedicated, diligent, hard working, honest, patriotic and nationalistic as well.
China has successfully controlled the population and now it is almost stabilized, i.e. no longer increasing unlike India. India is soon (in another 5–10 years) going to overtake China as the World’s most populous country. China is four times as big as India on area wise basis and is five times more economically strong (i.e. GDP & per capita income is more than five times than that of / in India). Look at how China controlled the COVID-19 Pandemic so quickly and so efficiently in such a short span of time. It is really a magic and like eighth wonder of the world that the country from where the pandemic started got over it so quickly and things were back to normal because the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Government is strict, disciplined and there is no opposition party to oppose the Government’s policies and the public, citizens, civil society is also law abiding, disciplined and follows the guidelines / SOPs / safeguards, take all necessary precautions, in their own personal / individual interest as well as in the interest of the family, coworkers, society, community, country creating a win-win for all.
Reality, facts are bitter and we can improve only if we accept the bitter truth. But we have to be goody goody and say “Mera Bharat Mahaan” (My India is Great) to keep our spirits high. Though it is a fact that India was indeed a great country, most developed civilization (Aryan race, Indus [Indic] Valley Civilization) and a world leader in education, economy, human development, in all the sectors till about 1000 A.D. (After Death) / in B.C. (Before Christ) timeline. India was ruined, looted, plundered by all the foreign invaders be it Alexander the great, Muslim dynasties from the Middle East (including the Mughals) and finally the Great East India Company, British, French, Portuguese Imperialist forces, powers and Foreign rule. And even the Independence of India in 1947 was not blemish free as the country got partitioned because of conspiracy hatched by both the internal as well as the external forces inimical to the country’s self interest. Today the said reality is that Pakistan in West and China in East are both enemy countries who have both illegally occupied India’s land and territory and they continue to bleed India. It is a herculean task for India to overcome the challenges being posed by China & Pakistan by way of encouraging cross border terrorism, strategically, diplomatically, militarily and sovereignty wise.
