I’m Not A Book Lover, And That’s Okay

The lockdown happened on March 25, 2020. And we all were pretty sure it would end very soon, but it’s still as prominent as the mark of a burn on one’s body.

This lockdown changed my views about reading, and you may want to know how. I’m the daughter of a teacher and reading is what we were usually found doing during the evenings. My father brought us a book named ‘Champak’. I’m not aware if it’s still available at the bookstores.

This remained the same until I got into higher classes and spent most of my time in school and at the tuition. Later when I moved to hostel life, the concept of reading faded away completely. Though whenever I came across a bookworm/book lover, I always wanted to get back to reading. I tried, bought a few books online, read them but couldn’t follow up for a long time. So eventually, I stopped forcing myself into reading books.

A few months later, the pandemic left us with plenty of time. I started reading again, not books but articles. This is when I eventually found out that this twenty-three-year-old girl is not a book lover and rather falls for long and beautiful articles.

I usually come across articles on my Instagram profile from the pages of Forbes India, Forbes Women, BBC News, The Hindu and I love them. Also, I accidentally found an App named ‘Medium’ where you can read articles anytime, anywhere.

So, eventually, this lockdown made me more conscious of my choice. And I’m proud that I’m forcing myself rather than accepting the facts!
