Periods And The Empire Of Stigma Around The Word

Periods are normal, natural and nothing to feel embarrassed about then why does this 7 letters word ‘PERIODS” rule over the tongues of people, why the empire of PERIOD’s word is not coming to end? This word has the Stamp of STIGMA on it because we all are authoritative of this stamp and approve this 7 letters word Periods as STIGMA.

This question is not for only females but for males too. Have you ever thought why this word couldn’t cover the distance between stigma and normalcy? Perhaps the answer will be a big no. Because we all are the barriers by ourselves who are putting high boundaries around the word and that’s why it is not able to cross the barriers of stigma and to reach normalcy.

When anyone among us chooses to raise a voice or take a step against the stigma, the rest of us start to criticize and say, “Dekho kaise baat kr rhi periods ke baare mai, sharm nahi hai iske andar”(look how she is talking about periods, doesn’t she have any shame?”) these are the golden words which are marked by critics. Let’s stop criticizing those who are taking a step forward and support them.

I believe that the stigma should end and I chose to take a step forward to end this taboo. If you also believe that the taboo should come to an end then take one step forward and talk openly about periods. After all, it’s just periods.

In the end, as a small step I want to express the vibrations of women’s mind through my poem when periods dates are close :

Like earlier, she again cried,

because the days have come for her roller coaster ride.

She made herself strong enough,

but deep down she knew it very well that how much it is tough.

She knew it very well that the days have arrived

which will snatch away her peaceful nights.

The notification to her mind and heart has arrived ‘

that for some days mood swings, anger and irritation will be your new guides.
