Fortunately, I was born in the era of freedom and escaped the black days of colonialism and the British Raj. Though the trauma of poor, desperate, and unfortunate Indians has been purely elaborated in the history which we now call ‘modern history’ but merely reading can’t give one much feeling about the era. Whether you say it a fortune or misfortune, a sense of resemblance of colonialism and loss of freedom is felt during these days because of this lockdown.
Now I am going to analogically present a parallel comparison of present days with the days of the British Raj.
Starting with the origin of the virus in Wuhan, the flu started to navigate the whole world like British and European sailors. Just like British merchants, the virus spread itself in the whole world to establish its empire. It succeeded in finding the way to India too but this time not necessarily through waters but through other avenues.
Like corona, Europeans entered India surreptitiously and disseminated themselves throughout the country. Taking lessons from the British Raj-era, they made no mistake and attacked the whole country and took control over the ‘Sayyiad Bandhus’ (read Modi and Shah).
Now they named themselves ‘Pandemic’ and their government as ‘Pandemic Raj’.Further, their next step was to fetter the hands of revolutionaries (intellectuals), so they started to impose their own law (epidemic act) in their realms and the mofussil. To further restrict the resurrection of Indians, they imposed a lockdown across the country. Now all the intellectuals and rebellion voices were inside their home thus giving a nostalgic feeling like Gandhi, Nehru, and Sardar behind the bars.
The marching of a group of stranded labors gives the reminiscence of the Dandi march by Gandhi. Patrolling police and their lathis remind me of the story of the pain of Lala Lajpat Rai. The hunger of the destitute tells the tale of the Bengal famine.
The tribulation of the judiciary, the executive is evident, the trauma of businesses and the economy unbearable. The pandemic is looting us like the Britisher and international organizations are helpless like the League of Nations. The global superpowers have locked their horns and Hitler (Trump) is in the delusion of grandeur. Here I am too naive to surmise the ground for World War but if you wish you can. Now again we should enter into our era of freedom from the story of the past. Our fighters (doctors) are trying their level best, our intellectuals are ready to face the evil of colonialism with the armour of ‘constitutionalism’. We are confident that we will win the day. Let us wait for a glimmer of hope.
