I find it quite thoughtful to ask how Biden’s approach will re-make the United States. It is important to ask it this election as the President-elect takes oath on January 20 next year. Biden would take the charge to effect upon systematic structural shifts in the paradigm of rulemaking and policy governance. In this regard, he would want to begin from the scratch by authoring incremental changes in the healthcare facility given the rising numbers of Corona casualty in the United States.
Vaccine tops Biden’s priority as the ordinary Americans have already suffered immensely from this pandemic. Trump’s rhetoric against the declaration of lockdown for curbing the spread is quite known. For him, the dwindling US economy and international trade mattered more than anything. He hardly cared for the loss of a few lives wanting to build a case out of a crisis that backfired. Still, Trump is refusing to make his peace with the verdict and coming to terms with the truth, also knowing well his options before his dispersal.
However, this won’t impact the moral of Biden as he has confidence and conviction in the American electorate. Biden has come up with his team that will get back to the drawing board once Biden officially takes the command. Fixing the state of employment and education will be the next crucial thing for Biden for its potential to woo and win the immigrants back as they were abandoned largely by Trump administration.
I’m sure that Biden would also like to formalize his association with the traditional US allies for inaugurating a new chapter in their trade and diplomatic relations. While being hard on issues favouring the US interests, at the same time he would also want to represent himself as someone who is flexible enough, unlike Trump. He would encourage a mutual exchange of ideas and opinions through consultations, dialogue and deliberations.
Kamala Harris, the next in line of to-be-US President, would work in harmony keeping Biden’s objective and interest in mind, focusing on rebuilding the trust of people of native origin in the US who were subjected to prejudice and discrimination on account of race and ethnicity.
Tensions had begun to brew in when a police officer shot a black American dead in one of the US cities amounting to violence, ransom and loot in major US cities. If allowed any further, this will lead to a sense of anarchy and injustice in the state and Biden would want to avoid it as much as possible. As for human rights, democracy and climate change, the Democrats would want to be seen as stepping up their actions, command and collaboration if for misrule and misgovernance. Biden hinted towards it when Modi dialled him up to congratulate.
So, mindfulness is a must in dealing with the new US administration under Biden and Harris.
