let’s Talk Trash- #sustainable living

I stumbled across one such Ted talk on YouTube by “Lauren Singer”, an environmental activist. As she came up on the stage, she came with a small  mason jar in her hand which she placed on the table next to her. Little did I know as she began talking about her journey of living a “zero waste” life. The mindblower started when she said she hasn’t produced any waste since what like, 8 years now,(except that 16oz mason jar that she carried)that means there’s nothing going away in the landfills, nothing in the trash bin, no waste at all. That’s incredible at the same time seems such a far reaching goal, right? I mean when i think about myself, the kind of trash I produce everyday, that’s a lot for a small person like me.

So of course, I had to look up this lovely lady and she managed to blow my mind. She started this incredible blog in the name of- “TRASH IS FOR TOSSERS”, this legit contains all the doubts and solution supporting her zero waste movement , like she almost has everything covered from buying package free stuff, to DIYs tutorials and so many other things. Indeed she deserves every inch of the title of  being one amongst 50 Badass women in changing the world.

Speaking of, living a sustainable life and being a woman, how can we forget about our monthly visitor- periods. Needless to say, menstruation is a part of every women’s life. Of course, Singer had to talk about a sustainable option which resonated with the decision that I took about 4 years ago from now, using a menstrual cup. As difficult and complex the idea might seem to a few people, it’s a blessing for all the women out there. From my own personal experience, its probably the best decisions that I’d take. And I can’t thank enough to the brilliant mind of  “LEONA CHALMERS”(yes, I googled). Now, I can literally write pages on the advantageous of using a cup but let’s just stop at the most important aspect of how less waste we could generate just by making a small shift from the popular. Thus, if sitting on your own blood for hours can be normal so can the idea of menstrual cup. We are of course in a more privilege position as the rest of the population in India, why not to use it more wisely and give more love instead of waste to the world.

The beauty industry has has its own share. The onset of beauty bloggers have so much to offer to us ,so many trending skincare and makeup products like facesheets, highlighters, etc etc, I hope and pray that just the way we think about beautifying our own selves, we sit back and think about the beauty of our surroundings as well. And clean beauty becomes the new millennium thing. Let’s do our bit and align our value systems with our lifestyles and try to be less trashy(pun intended.)
