I Do Not Have A Role Model And Here’s Why It’s Absolutely Okay!

Re-reading your school essays is a joy ride, with a tinge of amusement and embarrassment, of course! We have all written essays on ‘How I spent my summer vacations’ or ‘My Inspiration’ and so many others. I will admit it was fun creating imaginary summer vacations with beaches and mountains as if we were living a little dream!

Why I Ultimately Chose Not To Have One Role Model

I fondly remember, my mother used to bring the ‘101 Collection of Best School Essays’ every semester, and I would diligently open that book and copy it for my school assignment.

I believe those were the days of simply going by what was said, heard, or remembered, in school, at home, or any other social event. There wasn’t much thought that personally came in.

My inspirations have included the likes of my biological father as well as the Father of our Nation!

Now assuming that I can actually put some personal thought into it, I realized that I actually do not have a role model. No one person is my role model, or there is no one person I wish to emulate. Man is a social animal, and this virtue of his provides him with circles of interactions and dialogues. Why not draw inspiration from these dialogues!

My thought behind the whole ‘role model’ concept is a little different. Instead of borrowing inspiration from one single source, I choose to diversify my sources. Diversification of inspiration will yield healthier results is what I have come to believe. I draw inspiration from people, places, moments, and memoirs. People come with experiences, places with history, moments with memories, and memoirs with knowledge.

If we, in all actuality, go to seek inspiration, we can find it our everyday people. Our neighbors, our colleagues, our friends, and our foes – all of us exist and operate in a similar environment. Therefore, these everyday people become a more relatable source of inspiration, maybe?

Everyday Stories Inspire Me

Our everyday people sail through situations that are relatively known to us. They sail through them using ways and means that are within our reach. They share somewhat similar aspirations and dream of things once even we dreamt of! Their strength stories can supplement our hopes, for these everyday people share the same environment, same means, and same dreams!

We know of a neighbour who has overcome a fatal illness. We know of a colleague who has come out of a difficult mental state. We know of a friend who got out of an abusive relationship. We know of numerous others with similar stories of strength. I find immense power in their stories, and these are all my role models. Not just one, but each one. Each one with their splendid display of hope against hope!
