Poem: “If It’s Colour In America, It’s Caste In India”

SPEAK UP – NOW MORE THAN EVER

The fire at the George Floyd case
Was still raging
When the police back home
Allegedly murdered Jayraj and Fenix
Murder I say and not death
I call it out for what it is
And so should you
Sexually assaulting and mutilating
A person in custody
It’s a shame what privilege does to people
A disgrace that caste approves a warrant
For one to kill and the other to die
And the brazen shamelessness does not stop here
Claiming “verbal abuse” at the police
And allegedly running their shop during lockdown hours
As a cause for arrest
And “rolling on the ground”
As the cause of death
It’s facts that were so conveniently twisted
So it is untwistable facts that I’ll give you now
Delay in submitting the report for postmortem
To the High Court
Initial probes proving injury in the genital region of the victims
The online petitions and nationwide protests
Are proof that the country has had enough
That we don’t stay silent
And avert our eyes
That you don’t fuck with us
And get away with your shady enquiries
It’s not about revenge
It’s about justice
And retribution
Making sure that none suffers the same fate again
If it’s colour in America, it’s caste in India
Different stereotypes
Same injustice
Same police brutality
And if the public is to trust its “protectors” again
It’s time that trust is earned
Before the police set out on the holy crusade
To wipe out the evil in society
It will have to clean its own dark hallways of power first
Do not less this become just another story
Just another case of brutality
The fight has begun
Join in with petitions
With social media
With whatever you can
Demand answers from your government
You elected it after all
This is a democracy
Let’s start acting like one
Use your voice
It matters
Now more than ever
Boycott glorification of extra-judicial killings
Simba and Singham – Bollywood, it’s time you took notice
It works both ways you know
Raise your voice
Educate, support, empower
It matters now more than ever.
