Poem: Universities, Hear Us Out

To all the universities hell-bent on taking exams in the middle of a pandemic, hear me out.

You have a choice, so choose
Examinations in the middle of a pandemic
Or just after it ends.
Which we don’t have any surety of
But you do have a choice, so choose wisely.
Pay 500 now and go ahead with the exam
You asked us for it after all
Hold a sec, did we?

But it’s for you to go to Harvard
You don’t want to spoil your grades
So what is the fuss all about
So hear me, university
I hope you care enough to do
I paid my due after all
But here’s why I must speak on these exams
Because trust me my education
Concerns me more than you.

So here’s advice with all humility
Take us into consideration
Have real student participation
In your decision
Value our opinions
The governments have issued an order
Even IITs have canceled exams
So forgive me but I don’t really see
How we’re the only ones lagging behind

Cancel the exams and mark us
On internal assessment
With months of uncertainty
And doubt and emotional exhaustion,
Support us and be there for us
Don’t put us into situations
And call it a choice
Without giving us one
