Poem: If You’re Silent About Farmer Protests, When Did Your Conscience Die?

farmers protest 2020 in delhi on agriculture laws

From the land of rivers they rise,

Rivers endlessly patient and wise,

Rivers teaching revolution and resilience,

Rivers beyond the control of any peak’s political brilliance.

Through scarcity sufficiency, they’ve fed each gut,

Without any complain, without any thought of if and but,

Through all the calm there’s been silent distress,

With crooked intents now approaching their soil, rage is the only thing they’ve got to express.

Why has the fear started to show up now?

What is so bothering about people standing united to make the lie bow?

How did you process the thought of stopping flood flowing from a bloodline fed with valour?

Didn’t you see reflections of the past narrating everything well enough through a single roar?

They not only serve themselves but also you,

Not only they fight for themselves but also others captured under your camouflaged plans you assume to get through,

Ethically wrong mistakes have led to revolutions, I hope you’ve read history,

All of them superlative in their own ways altogether have always defeated sophistry.

Now if you are existing being silent and consuming food that you assume is received from the sky,

I would like to ask you, “When did your conscience die?”

When did you forget that “Long Live the Revolution” escalating on streets,

The revolution that always had, has, will serve defeat to the ones claiming time and power to be dancing to their beats.
