Why Is Women’s Entry Prohibited At Sacred Places During Periods?

Menstruation is a phenomenon through all girls experience around the age of 13 or after that. A lot of taboos are associated with the phenomena of Menstruation or periods. The most common taboo or a myth which I got to know was during the first year of my periods, when my mother told me not to offer prayers, not to visit the temples as it makes the place impure.

I was unable to understand the reason behind such kind of myth at that tender age. How can menstruating women make a place impure? As I grew up, I was told that a menstruating woman is totally unhygienic and unclean and this is the reason their entry is strictly prohibited in religious places.

This myth should be cleared as soon as possible as in ancient times, women use to perform rituals, offer prayers, visit religious places during their menstruation period. Women should be allowed to enter the religious places, offer prayers, etc during their menstruation period as it is considered a boon from God which converts a girl into a complete woman.
