Kindness To Self And More Lessons 2020 Taught Me For Life

I remember how 2020 commenced with my 3-month internship at NBRI, Lucknow, on January 3rd, 2020. In the beginning, we used to hear the news of COVID-19 spreading in China and people dying in masses every day, but as time passed, we heard the news about COVID-19 spreading in India at breakneck speed. I was almost about to complete my dissertation when the lockdown was imposed across India, work got halted, and I had to go back home.

Meditation Worked Wonders In Helping Me Deal With Anxiety

Lord knows how this started, but I got breathless from time to time. I was locked up in my room for hours, lacklustred. I wouldn’t speak to anyone. Stuck by insomnia. I desperately wanted to find a solution to my problem as it was interfering with my daily activities.

After some research on google and some quality talk with my close friends, I figured out how to deal with my anxiety. It began with me reading a plethora of self-help books. Meditation worked wonders for me. I continue  with meditation even today as it contributed to dragging me out of the bad phase in my life.

Meditation helped me with balancing my emotions and my reaction to those emotions. Not many people with who you share your mental issues would be able to relate to you or would want to listen to you because everybody is dealing with something or the other. I lived in denial for a long period of time but ultimately got up and decided that I was not what I had become.

I Learnt To Put Myself First

I unfollowed everything toxic off my social media, including some of my so-called ‘friends’, and started spending more time with my family. I prepared for competitive exams. I tried to be productive and distanced myself from my mobile phone.

I kept in touch with only those people who brought in positivity. I became really selective about who was worth my time and energy and stopped caring about who does not like me and rather focused on loving myself a bit more every day.

The Pandemic Made Me Realise How Crucial It Is To Be Kind

As Corona Virus started spreading at an alarming rate, we saw heartbreaking scenarios across the world. Even if today it isn’t at the peak, it’s still a difficult time for many people because the pandemic isn’t over yet. If we talk about India specifically, as covid was ascending in India and lockdown got imposed,  the whole country slid into anarchy.

I am not going to provide any figures here, but we are all aware of how perilous the situation had become. We saw people struggling with financial problems, job losses, family crisis, health crisis, scarcity of basic needs. 2020 also showed how depression and other mental health issues could push someone to the edge.

I realized how crucial it is to be affable and kind. Even the slightest gesture of accepting others the way they are can be so healing and alleviating. Acceptance also sets us free of false expectations and desires from others because we can never really comprehend who is battling the greatest battles of life.

Don’t Get So Involved In Building A Lavish Lifestyle That You Forget To Appreciate The Little Things In Life

A house to live in, 3 meals a day, a constant source of income, and health-care were some basic necessities that turned into a luxury in 2020. People who were not deprived of these vitalities were actually privileged.

We are so involved in building a lavish lifestyle that we never appreciate the small things in life until they become a luxury themselves. Therefore, now, I celebrate every little thing in life because little things are big things, and less is ample.

Hoping for positivity and goodness for everyone in 2021.
