Here’s What Bihar Government Is Doing To Improve Disaster Response

It appears that the Bihar government has drawn its utmost attention towards proper upkeep of state government-run schools. It is now concerned with students’ safety in times of fire.

It becomes quite difficult to extinguish fire in the absence of fire tenders in remote areas. It is in such an odd situation that nothing except handheld fire extinguishers stand like a big solace for the encircled sufferers.

Questions can be posed as to why as many as 90,000 schools were left vulnerable so far? Was there no danger lurking? Did the school verandahs have enough space to battle emergency fire? Were teachers unaware of the wooden furniture in the class?

Though the decision has been taken a little late, it can not be dismissed as too late. In general, classroom furniture such as wooden chairs, tables and desks can effortlessly grab the leaps of a hysterical fire. Given such a situation, fire safety in schools has come to be an extremely vital issue.

An uncontrolled fire can cause not just property damage but also a huge loss of life. For schools that are providing mid-day meals, the paraphernalia with usual LPG cylinders can lead to fire accidents as well. Thus, fire control devices are required in these schools at all costs.

This situation must also be monitored regularly to ensure fire safety in government schools. Throwing light on the present-day facility of fire fighting device in the state, a news report informs, “मौजूदा समय में प्रदेश के 34 फीसद सरकारी विद्यालयों में अग्निशमन यंत्र नहीं है (About 34% of government-run schools in the state do not have fire safety devices.)| So, the Bihar government has awakened from its slumber and decided to provide a sum of Rs 20,000 for procuring a fire extinguishing facility.

(90,000 government schools of the state are preparing for disaster management. It is mandatory for all schools to have a fire extinguisher for which 20,000 rupees have also been made available.)
