The Covid vaccine is here. The scientific community has proved beyond doubt that it’s the twenty-first century and we are no longer at the mercy of years of wait for things to get back to normal. About a year since the virus spread worldwide, our researchers have produced a vaccine.
2 Doses Are Being Registered With A Gap Of 28 Days
Frontline workers have started receiving the two doses of vaccines with a gap of 28 days in between. The frontline workers around the world are the first to receive the vaccine and rightly so. Individuals above the age of 60 are now being registered for the next dose of vaccines. Registration for the rest of the population is expected to begin soon through the app Co-WIN.
Doctors proved their dedication to much more than their profession, they proved their dedication to humanity and the integrity of their resolve to treat the sick to the best of their ability. And for this, the rest of humanity shall forever be grateful.
2.9 million people have already been vaccinated in India. Around 30 million individuals have been identified for vaccinations in the first phase but a general sense of doubt and hesitation around the vaccine remains which is slowing the rate of vaccinations.
Even as the vaccine is being rolled out and hundreds are vaccinated per day, it raises concern among many and a very valid one at that. Every vaccine passes through an animal test to determine its possible side effect on humans. The corona vaccines didn’t go through any such test.
In fact, in a completely unprecedented manner, a dry test run was conducted on humans first! This usually takes longer. The mumps vaccine took 4 years of testing before being approved for humans.
It’s needless to say that we didn’t have the same amount of time to spare considering the emergency and the whole ‘we need to get the world running again’ scenario. However, one can only hope that the lack of testing doesn’t cost us in the long run.
People Need Proof To Warm Up To The Idea Of Vaccines
Each state was given the option of choosing between the Covishield and Covaxin. All the frontline workers are being vaccinated by the vaccine their state chose for them and this has been objected to by quite a few doctors. Affording the medical community the choice of vaccine might have boosted their confidence in the drive but it would have also delayed the entire vaccination process.
It would stretch the process by months and disturb the logistics. However, we need to note, that these vaccines are producing side effects like nausea, vomiting, and headache among the frontline workers.
While many are enthusiastic to get vaccinated and get back to their normal lives, quite a lot especially the older generations are apprehensive of the possible side effects of the vaccine. People will need proof to warm up to the idea of vaccines and I hope we see positive results in 2021.
