Is Democracy Dead In India?

This is an image of a woman holding a poster that reads Save Democracy

Democracy in India

Democracy lives on three conceptual clusters; equality, freedom, and rule of law. These three intermingled with each other and establish a functional democratic nation, India is the democratic nation as a legal force through her constitution as part of the Preamble and through her cultural value enrooted in the history of Chola, sangha, and so on.

The hast nature of Arnab Goswami’s bail while many languish in jail show that maybe everyone is not equal for the law.

Few instances act as terrible jolts on the democracy & on their characteristic “rule of law” as defined by the commendable endeavor of the AV Dicey where every individual is on the same foot in the front of the law. However, the Munawar Faruqui arrest, Kappan Siddique arrest, Bhima Koregaon arrest, and denial of bail moreover a large number of detained accused (still to be declared convicted) are behind the iron shaft, the parallel bail of Arnab Goswami as a hurried justice leads to the unstable equation.

the second feature of equality and democracy, open a paradox box on multidimensional stream as on the economic front. After Covid, the ridge between poor and rich has been engraved and enlarged(FAO report, In India alone, some 400 million people would slip into poverty due to the impacts of the pandemic), social equality is beyond the edge of the sun, women encaged as a “private women” because of the fear of patriarchal attitude of the society which treats women as “commodity” and the rise in rape cases. Isn’t it correct to refer to rape as a national crime?

When on average one case is reported every fifteen minutes(NCRB). seeing the crisis of equality as the democratic value. The third basic foundation freedom, dissent. On which JS Mill said freedom to speech is the necessary condition for intellectual and social progress.

On one hand, we stand against radical Islam(France and its way ahead), on the other hand, encroached the excellence of writers, directors, actors, etc right to protest is the heated facet of freedom which intensified in the one or two years, is a protest can make any change for inclusive democracy, till now two big protests have been futile in political discourse,

however, I do not agree with the concept of democracy died? rather I consider democracy as the energy that never dies just transform into another form(system)

All democracies turn into dictatorships – but not by a coup. The people give their democracy to a dictator, whether it’s Julius Caesar or Napoleon, or Adolf Hitler. Ultimately, the general population goes along with the idea…

— George Lucas

Now, its high time to recognize the virtue of India’s own culture and Gandhi’s swaraj to conserve democracy
