China Awarded Contract Of Underground Tunnel Construction In NCR

Informal communication is stunning, but a confidential contact between the two neighbouring countries can be considered even better. India and China seem to be pursuing a kind of strategic belief in their respective steps amid the 8-month long standoff in the Himalayan region of Ladakh and the episode of the boycott of Chinese appliances still remains fresh in our country’s political parlance. But despite all the strange things since the death of our as many as 20 Jawans on LoC, there is a certain improvement and things between the two countries are shaping up.

In the year 2018, the bilateral trade relations between these two opposite countries were reasonably better. Yet, the June 2020 episode accelerated the antagonistic sentiments between both of the two Asian countries. It was in December 2020 that the news of rice export to China entered the scene which revived the possible halted trade relations again between the two countries.

Now, the latest news of a contract worth Rs 1126 crore for construction of a 5.6 km long stretch of the underground tunnel from New Ashok Nagar to Sahibabad of Delhi-Merrut RRTS project has been awarded to the Chinese company Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Company Limited. Its bid remained the lowest of all the five technical bidders comprising of Indian bidders and one Turkish bidder. This shows better signs of public relations with China.
