Saudi Arabia To Begin The Construction Of ‘Artificial City’ In April

Prominent for petrol production with a capacity of 12,000,000 barrels a day, middle-east Saudi Arabia is expected to bring in reality a brand-new artificial city from April this year. It looks more like a novel intuition.

Saudi Arabia Continues The Legacy Of Spanish Engineer Don Mata

It seems the wealthy kingdom does not stop plunging into innovative ideas for its all-round development. What was left by Spanish engineer Don Arturo Soria Mata, who came up with an idea for a perfect city, “La Ciudad Lineal” 1882, was picked up by the oil-rich state. It appeared to have come out as valuable for the oil-rich Saudia.

Termed as The Line, it will be a futuristic $500-billion, clean-energy powered city consisting of several “city modules” arranged along one single 106-mile long road in the middle of the wild and hot desert.

The desirable question arises, why is Saudi Arabia planning such a city? It is being developed as a cornerstone of Saudi Vision 2030 and an economic engine for the Kingdom. It will drive diversification and aims to contribute 380,000 future jobs and Saudia Rials180 billion (USD 48 billion) to domestic GDP by 2030.

Designed around a single long road, The Line is for walkers, with longer journeys handled by an underground Hyperloop train covering the 100-mile journey from one end of the city to the other in just 20 minutes.

Time Will Tell Whether The Advanced Tech City Will Be A Success Or Not

As has been started, the new city will be dependent on artificial intelligence to run most of its infrastructure and renewable energy to supply all of its power necessities. Residents will live within a five-minute walk of essential facilities.

Reacting on its future, Simon Withers, a senior lecturer in architecture at the University of Greenwich, said that The Line sounded to him like “A hundred-mile shopping mall… a veritable vision of Hell”. Time will tell whether this freshly designed planning is a step into a brand new possibility or just a pipe dream!

Everyone loves a novel idea and the architectural marvel industry because these things bring change in geographical sites. Recently this concept of raising an artificial city has been compelling structural designers to ponder.

From high-rise buildings to stunning bridges over the rivers to making sandy deserts worth living, the process does not stop altogether. Today, let’s hold a closer glance at the “the line”, which had more than one surprise in its fate.
