Virtues In The Time of Postmodernism And Feminism

All human beings are bounded by values — some are social and religious, others are based on financial status or say caste, for instance.

The postmodern idea that Victorian values are just junk and should be thrown away is not perceived the way it should be and is tabooed because of the basic fact that values are somethings that is core to our life. Research says that when you attack one’s core belief, it feels to him like someone slicking their throat. Writers push them to be more ignorant about social issues faced by minorities, but are widely perceived as okay.

I think that there is a whole range of literature coming out of slashing Victorianism and that it’s complete junk, but the fact is that it is an ideology that tried to stop slave trade, prostitution etc. There are issues that it does not address and it is not right to keep portfolios of people on the basis of their birth, gender etc. The ostensible unequal status for men and women is currently shifting its trajectory and Youth Ki Aawaz is doing a good job voicing people’s opinion but we should not do that by burning others’ core beliefs or values.

Things need continuity to succeed and sudden change can bring anarchy. My response is that women must be empowered and take care of t their own virtues. We need to condemn hypocrisy of imposing values and the change on ground in our conservative society will not come by hitting hard at what they believe is virtuous, and rather will come by convincing them about historical facts, psychological reasons and consequences of their practices.

When we are making comparisons like more men own property than women, which is a harsh truth, we also need to look at those men who are needy and those women who are needy, and why men are likely to have an edge over the other in those situations.

We need to stop objectification of women and curb the spread of rape culture by campaigning against pornography, not by seeing it as a safety valve for depressed youth. We need to give proper education on the biological functioning of our body to students in an acceptable way. We need to promote internet ethics and teach students how to use the internet for their need and not their greed or dopamine hit, if not formally then informally.

Thank you
