There are certain stereotypes about men in our society that are widely seen as a man’s strength and power. Each man is supposed to fulfil certain criteria and expectations in order to be a man.
Here is an open poetic letter to this society of ours. It talks about some hurdles that, as a man, one has to face.
Dear Society,
Pain is pain, emotions are emotions
Sometimes I too can be shy
I’m a man and I too can cry
I may not always become a saviour
But will surely give that a try
I’m a man and I too can cry
Insecurity is not a gender thing
There can be demons I get harassed by
I’m a man and I too can cry
I have to run the whole household
The expectations sometimes run too high
I’m a man and I too can cry
I needed to be strict and responsible
There are rules with which I must comply
I’m a man and I too can cry
I am born to fulfill my family’s dream
I have dreams too but mostly they die
I’m a man and I too can cry
So, I hope you’ll understand the situation of being a man and have some introspection.
Thanking you
Yours obedient,
An ordinary man
