We Educated Our Girl Child, But Forgot To Educate Our Sons To Respect Them

In India, families celebrate the birth of a son while the birth of a girl child is not welcomed. And this is where discrimination starts. Right from her arrival, she faces discrimination, harassment, sexual abuse, lack of education, dowry-related harassment, gender pay gap and much more. When it comes to healthcare, education and growth opportunities, she is neglected because of her sex.

The main reason behind parents unwilling to spend on the girl’s education is the mindset that educating women is of no value as in the future, they will only serve their husbands and in-laws.

Unfortunately, we live in a society that teaches a woman to be careful not to get raped, but does not teach a man to not rape. While a whole generation of parents woke up to educating their girl child, the very same generation forgot to educate their sons to respect and support the girl child.
