Criticising The Government Or Its Policies Is Not Criticism Of The Nation

protest

We live in a global time where every day, the idea of a closed nation is shrinking. Now our ideas and lives are not limited to the nation we belong to. Global matters are affecting globally. Solidarity and empathy have never been limited to a nation’s boundaries; it’s basic human nature.

Mahatma Gandhi fought for the rights of people of colour in South Africa. Would you call it a conspiracy or interference in the internal matter of South Africa? Even Mr Modi did an election campaign for Trump in India and the U.S. What do you call that? This selective hatred or shaming is a dangerous trend.

When Rihanna, Greta, Mia Khalifa and several other artists and activists stood with the #FarmersProtest, it is their right to free speech. Calling it an attack on the sovereignty of India is foolish. Criticising a Government or policies can never be a criticism of the nation, the Government is not the nation.

Rihanna and Mia have been slut-shamed online after tweeting about the farmers’ protest.

The way these celebrities and activists have been trolled on social media is very scary. It’s an organised attack and at the same time, the reaction of our MEA is not mature enough. Bollywood celebrities also took it wrong and started condemning them and fell in line with the MEAs reaction. Kangana went ahead and spoke below the belt. She has lost her mind in the race of appeasing the right-wingers.

This can never be a reaction from a citizen of a mature Democracy. Instead, we should feel proud that we live in a nation where everyone has the right to fight for their rights and oppose government policies. Instead of trolling them, we must concentrate on the real issue and try to listen to our farmers.
