Opinion: Congress’ Actions Are Making It A “Hollow Alternative” To BJP Before Indians

A Godse has found his union with Gandhi after being felicitated by the Congress in Madhya Pradesh. Babulal Chaurasia from Hindu Mahasabha joined the bandwagon of the grand old party in Bhopal days before the state heads for municipal council polls. Well, Congress is wanting to come to an equal page with the Bhartiya Janta Party is unapologetic on appropriating Hindutva for its personal political goals and merits.

But in this process, it is paying a price for abandoning the concept of secularism, liberty and equality making it hollow as an alternative before the people.

Marred by desertions and defections, this Congress is distinctively different from what it was around the time of Indira and Rajiv Gandhi. Apologies, but the party has made no effort ever since it was bruised and battered by the ascendancy of Narendra Modi in 2014. Leave aside overhauling the organization structure, the party has been unable to mend its code and conduct whenever it comes to organizing, mobilizing and arousing the emotions and sentiments of the party cadre, activists and functionaries.

Rifts, rebellions and splits have become a regular occurrence hurting the probabilities and prospects of the party. In March 2020, Scindia along with his loyal groups of MLAs walked out from Kamalnath’s government thus bringing down its strength and tally. Shivraj Singh Chouhan was the ultimate beneficiary of this coup giving him a shot at power. In July 2020, differences between Ashok Gehlot, Rajasthan CM and his deputy Sachin Pilot were out in the open but we’re timely checked and contained by the Congress high command.

If this becomes the recurrence than I doubt if the Indian National Congress will ever be able to bounce back by not getting to the ground. A question predominating everybody’s mind and attention if Gandhis are willing to take a page out of it.

I leave it to their conscience.
